[Virtual Tour] Among the most influential American architects, James Renwick, Jr. (1818 – 1895) designed and introduced some of the young country’s most recognizable buildings and monuments in a variety of architectural styles and building types. Join historian James Russiello on this new series of virtual architectural monograph series on the life, influence, and New York works of notable architects. This presentation will review the family and New York society that influenced Renwick’s design, his innovative work developing and bringing over new architectural styles and building types, the legacy of his architectural practice, and legacies of numerous institutions that play a major role in the social, religious, and cultural climate of nineteenth-century America.
