Make Space: Gary Bates, SPACEGROUP, GAUD Critic-at-Large

Gary Bates is a co-founder of MAKE MAKE (USA) and SPACEGROUP (NO). He began his collaboration with Rem Koolhaas (OMA) in 1992 on such projects as the Educatorium (NL), Jussieu Library in Paris, Cardiff Bay Opera House, Samsung Headquarters in Seoul, and the Media Valley masterplan in Inchon Korea. From 1995-1998 Gary Bates was principal in charge of the Asian OMA department. He has been a guest professor at the University of Texas in Austin, the University of Kentucky, and the Berlage Institute in the Netherlands, and an Adjunct Professor at Cooper Union, Cornell and Syracuse Universities. Gary is currently working as an Adjunct Professor at Columbia (GSAPP).
