Skyscraper National Park: Origins in Lower Manhattan

Chicago and New York both lay claim to the invention of the skyscraper. This walk focuses on local evidence, visiting the site of the original Equitable Building, as well as early examples executed in a range of styles and materials between 1869 and the First World War. Well-known and lesser-known structures, many with remarkable ornamentation, will be discussed, including the Potter Building, the Wallace Building, and the Woolworth Building.
