The Finnish Cultural Institute in New York, in partnership with the Consulate General of Finland in New York and the Finnish Institute in the UK and Ireland, presents Helsinki-based Vapaa Collective’s project, Architectural Act of Care, as part of the 2024 Archtober program. Taking place from September 30 to October 4, this event series features public performances in New York City and a symposium on October 1.

As the concluding segment of a series that began in Helsinki and continued in London, Vapaa Collective urges a reevaluation of architecture's role in addressing climate change. It highlights the threat of rising sea levels to Lower Manhattan, advocating for a shift in how we design and build. By engaging with the current waterfront, Vapaa Collective’s performative series emphasizes the need for architecture to nurture and sustain the environment, a concern that resonates as much in New York as it does in Finland’s coastal areas.

Performative actions take place at various locations:

Monday 30 Sept - Hudson Yards (towards south)
Wednesday 2 Oct - Brooklyn Bridge (towards south)
Thursday 3 Oct - Pier 35 / Williamsburg Bridge (towards north)
