The Design • Art • Nature Tour is the standard public tour, offered weekly Fridays through Mondays from mid-May through mid-November. Visit MANITOGA, the House, Studio and Woodland Garden of pioneer industrial designer, Russel Wright (1904-1976) and his family. Experience Dragon Rock, Wright's experimental home which he built onto the rock ledge of an abandoned quarry while masterfully orchestrating the surrounding landscape into a series of outdoor rooms of varying character and delight.

Visitors follow the upper Quarry path to enjoy stunning views of the Quarry Pool, House and Studio. An ascending stone stair leads to a mountain laurel grove and the exquisite moss rooms before visitors cross a majestic waterfall over a wood plank bridge. Once at Dragon Rock, the House and Studio interiors are defined by expanses of glass, innovative materials use, and seamless connections to outside terraces.

2024 Art + Design Installation

Manitoga / The Russel Wright Design Center and Upstate Diary are pleased to announce THE MOSS ROOM, a two-person exhibition of outdoor sculpture by Alma Allen (b. 1970, Utah) and Bosco Sodi (b. 1970, Mexico City), situated in Manitoga’s woodland quarry landscape in Garrison, NY from September 13 through November 18, 2024.

THE MOSS ROOM observes the connections to Wright’s unique property and links these artists’ distinctive practices, highlighting Allen and Sodi’s experimental approach to form and material that engages a dynamic history of the natural world and draws especially from the landscape of the Americas. The exhibition is curated by Kate Orne, founder of Upstate Diary, and co-organized by Kasmin.
