Join us for a conversation on Rising Currents on the 12th anniversary of Hurricane Sandy.
Rising Currents, an workshop held at MoMA PS1 in 2009, leading to an exhibition at MoMA in 2010, featured five interdisciplinary teams of designers-in-residence, tasked with re-envisioning vulnerable areas of the coastlines of New York City and nearby New Jersey around New York Harbor. Based on an AIA.Latrobe funded study on “soft” infrastructures alternatives sympathetic to the needs of a sound ecology, the Rising Currents project returned to the forefront of discussion after Hurricane Sandy in 2012 accelerated New York City’s need for coastline resiliency. This panel is at once a reunion, a taking stock, and a discussion on next steps on an issue that has only intensified in urgency.
