Please join Gallatin professor Louise Harpman and other urban enthusiasts as we explore the Hunts Point neighborhood in the Bronx for the twelfth annual BIG WALK!
A signature Gallatin event, the BIG WALK brings together all parts of our academic community as we “walk and talk” about the city. This year’s BIG WALK will travel through distinct residential, commercial, and industrial areas in Hunts Point, both inland and on the waterfront.
We will start at The Point (940 Garrison Ave, The Bronx), and checkpoints along the route will include short presentations from special guests who will introduce us to the many occupants--present and past--who have inhabited this peninsula.
Highlights will include THE POINT Community Development Corporation, Barretto Point Park, The Floating Pool, Hunts Point Produce Market, Joseph Rodman Drake Park & Enslaved Africans Burial Ground, Hunts Point Railroad Spur, and Rocking the Boat, among others.
The BIG WALK is sponsored by the Gallatin School of Individualized Study at New York University, with co-sponsorship from the Urban Democracy Lab, openEARTHstudio, Gallatin WetLab, STAC, and the Gallatin Design Collective.
