WORLDS Un/DESIGNED: Unscripted, Atypical, Unnatural, & Uncontrolled

Conventions have long shaped design and architecture. Norms in planning, material use, graphic standards, and spatial ideas reveal how designers approach world-building, often reinforcing codified views of spaces, bodies, and environments that limit more inclusive futures. The SoAD AY 24-25 lecture and event series, Worlds Un/Designed, seeks to deconstruct these conventions by challenging stereotypes in design practices, urban systems, technological dependencies, and conceptions of the natural vs. unnatural. The Series will address the exclusions embedded in our constructed environments, focusing on ecology, sustainability, autonomy, accessibility, and inclusion. By critically reflecting on conventions, Worlds Un/Designed invites to reimagine healthier, alternative futures yet to be designed.

Hosted by and with the support of SoAD Dean Maria Perbellini. Organized by the New York Tech SoAD Lectures & Events Committee (Chair: Athina Papadopoulou, Administration: Susan Sternberg). Poster design by Ezio Blasetti.
