Join decorative arts historian Laini Farrare as she dives deep into her master’s thesis “Blowing in the Wind: the Hidden Hands of East Hampton”. Farrare's studies focus on a three-part case study exploring Black craftsmanship and labor in East Hampton New York during the early years of the new nation. Although this may be far from the Bronx, Farrare links early New York history as a story of enslavement, partisanship, and freedom.

Growing up in Wilmington, Delaware, Laini Farrare always valued historic sites particularly for their connection to the stories of early Black Americans. She fostered this growing desire for historic preservation and public interpretation through a BA in Public Policy and a minor in Museum Studies from the University of Delaware. Farrare furthered her interest in museum interpretation and material culture by graduating with a MA from the Winterthur Program in American Material Culture in 2024. She will begin her Ph.D. this fall in history at UD continuing her MA studies of early New York and Black craftsmanship.
