This walking tour, led by Angel Hernandez, President of the Huntington Free Library and Bronx Historian, will highlight many historic buildings in the neighborhood including the United Workers Cooperatives, also known as "the Coops." The Tudor Revival style buildings, constructed between 1926 and 1929 by the United Workers' Association, feature distinctive architecture and a rich social history that will be highlighted in the walking tour. The Coops, a historic landmark in the Bronx's Allerton neighborhood, were an epicenter for worker’s rights during the first half of the 20th century, and the tour will provide insights into its role in shaping community and social dynamics in the area.
