This event, hosted by the AIANY Civic Leadership Program (CLP), will investigate past and emerging developments in policy changes in administrations at all levels and their impacts on the built environment. Audience members will have an opportunity to articulate their concerns and will be empowered with strategies for change at the local level.

Structured around expert analysis, audience participation, and actionable next-steps, the CLP Cohort seeks to give context to new and recurring concerns, while looking towards opportunities for future intervention.  Invited speakers will analyze past, present, and future challenges and opportunities brought on by legislative changes and will examine their long-term consequences on the built environment. Topics may include sustainability, infrastructure, housing & urban development, and research & development. The CLP Cohort will use live audience polls to address personal hopes and fears for the future under changing administrations, creating an educational environment that promotes listening, dialogue, and support.

About the AIANY Civic Leadership Program
The AIANY Civic Leadership Program (CLP) is designed to cultivate design professionals into civic leaders. Through a six-month mentorship and training program, ten designers develop skills to engage in the civic process. The CLP provides opportunities to interface with government officials, community development organizations, and local stakeholders through development sessions and public events. The program also provides opportunities to improve communication and public speaking skills and engage in community outreach and consensus building.
