New Practices New York 2018: MABU in Conversation with Beatrice Galilee

Oct 4 at 6–8pm
Benjamin Moore Showroom, NY Design Center, 200 Lexington Ave, Suite 814, New York, NY 10016
Organized by AIA New York

The AIANY New Practices Committee along hosts a series of lectures by winning firms of the New Practices New York 2018 Competition. This lecture series will be held at the new Benjamin Moore Showroom. New Practices New York, a biennial competition since 2006, serves as New York City’s preeminent platform to recognize and promote new and innovative architecture and design firms. This evening’s talk will feature a conversation between Matt Burgermaster, principal of MABU, and Beatrice Galilee.

MABU’s work focuses on the material, spatial, and environmental leftovers of others. Both by choice and by coincidence, much of the firm’s work re-imagines buildings produced by a modernity that has exhausted itself. The things we discard don’t just go away, nor are the trash heaps of history only filled with old junk. In this new era where everything has  been altered by human activity, the MABU chooses to recognize old buildings as material and cultural resources.

Speakers:

Matt Burgermaster, Principal, MABU
Beatrice Galilee, Daniel Brodsky Associate Curator of Architecture and Design, Metropolitan Museum of Art
